Blue Cross Society of India is one of the Pioneers in Alcoholic and Substance abuse de-addiction in India. Blue Cross was set up in the year 1986 and for the last 23 years has been working in India holistically for the total rehabilitation of alcoholics and their families. Blue Cross also understands the humanitarian and social needs of alcoholics and our approach consists of building capacity and competence in all the areas. Blue Cross is presently working in four states within India i.e. Chhatisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala. These states have been chosen carefully as there has been a splurge in alcohol addiction is these states.
India with a population of more than one billion has 62.5 million hard core alcoholics and although India's culture is still very conservative towards having liquor, the average age in India for the consumption of alcohol has declined from 30 to 19 years. Kerala which boasts of the highest literacy rate has a dubious distinction of the highest alcohol consuming state in India. In the state of Chhatisgarh the alcohol consumption has increased at the rate of 30%.
